My wife has been on HRT since her total hysterectomy over 10 yrs ago. It seems every dr has had a different treatment. Most recently, the ob/gyn she has been seeing for the past year resigned and now has to find a new dr. In the year she was under his care her estradiol dose ranged from 2mg/day down to .5mg/day and medroxyprogesterone at 5mg a day the first 12 days of the month most recently. Prempro was also used. Hot flashes seem to be the biggest complaint my wife gives.
I’ve had a hard time finding any kind of standard used in womens hrt. This dr never did blood testing to check the levels. And had an aversion to shots, citing evidence for increased risk of cancer.
My question is what to look for when finding a new dr? Any type better than another, eg ob/gyn, DO, etc?
My humble advice is to seek a doctor who will not use synthetic hormones but only prescribes bio-identical hormone therapy. It just so happens that LEF has a report in their October publication. http://www.lef.org/magazine/index.htm
Another source for finding a doctor is one of several books authored by Suzanne Somers. You may actually be convinced that, as a male, you may want to consider BHT yourself.

If you wish to seek women specialist Dr O and myself deal with this issues at our clinic in PA.

What kind of BHT options are available for male HRT? Isn’t injectable testosterone cypionate synthesized from a source that is biologically available?
