Saturated fat has vitamin A,E,D,K and iron. They are more easily absorbed from fats than from vegies. Also body fat is inflammatory and losing it can help boost your mood. Avoiding excess carbs and sugar will not only help in losing weight but also hep in reducing inflammation. If you cut out bread too you also are eliminating gluten which is also inflammatory.

Its always helpful to hear that something is working. Sometimes lithium and some other psyche meds can mess with thyroid function which can cause weight gain. Once in a while if you can get your thyroid levels checked.

You might try UNILIVER. Its desicated liver thats high in iron. Its a safer way to take iron than iron supps. Or you could just eat liver everyday .Yuk! I take 20 liver tabs a day. You can also get it in a powder.

Hi, Unipolar is just a term relating to just depression without a manic component. I guess someone could be unipolar with just mania and no depression attached. My Dr wants me to try a small dose of Lithium 300mgs. How has it worked for you? Any side effects like the SSRI’S?

When I was 17 I was smoking a joint and had an anxiety attack which spilled into OCD which I have had for 38 years now. In the few times I tried it after that I had increased anxiety and OCD symptoms. I don’t think Marijuana is as benign as some people think it is. There is also evidence that it can trigger psychotic illnesses in those who might be predisposed.

My Carlsons Super Omega contains 600mgs of Omega -3 Fatty Acids EPA 300 DHA 200 and other Omega3’s 100mgs in one gel cap. The fish body oil is from deep cold water fish. I take two a day. How is Cod Liver Oil superior to this? And how does regular fish oil cause an overdose of unsaturated fatty acids? Compared to Cod Liver Oil.

Hi Jill, I have never used Prozac but since it is not measured in micro amounts such as Thyroid meds Generic should be fine. Some meds that are measured in very small amounts can be felt if they are only slightly different like the Thyroid meds. I hope it helps you the same as before. All the best.

I was on the low side. 488 total T and 5.9 free. My Dr let me try Androgel to see if it would help with my depression. SSRI’s were impossible for me to tolerate. Its been 5 months and although my T levels are great it has done nothing for my mood. It does help some people however. Testosterone raises dopamine levels in the brain which help some and it may help with the side effects of SSRI’s. For that reason I may try another one such as prozac. I am 55 years old. Maybe just adding in some DHEA would raise your levels enough to see if you might benefit from testosterone therapy. Next time also get your SHBG tested. Sorry you are going through this.

New and strange? for me its the hardest thing to do. My mind is always wandering around thinking of anything else but this moment. My yoga instructor says that this is normal and to just try and return to the present if even for a short time. One good way to do it is to bring your focus to the events of your day from start to end and view them without any judgement or analysis. Just notice each event of the day and there emotions as kind of a spectator. In our new technology based world we are training ourselves to do just the opposite. We are nor watching TV while on the computer and grabbing our phone to send text messages all at the same time. We drive and talk on the phone. We are never fully enjoying the moment we are in. I went in a vacation last year to a place with no computers or phone service and it was the most relaxing experience of my life. I am pretty sure as a culture we are no more happier than people who lived years ago without all these techno things. I bet there are mentally ill people now compared to many years ago without all these conveniences.

Hi by mindfulness do you mean mindfulness meditating? Someone with the problems you describe would surely benefit from relaxation techniques like mindfulness meditation. Along with yoga breath I try to do it every day.

You pretty much state why you are not falling asleep. Constant thinking about why you were fired and how you were railroaded. It sounds like you need therapy to help you come to peace with what you perceived that happened to you. The best diet and all the vitamins in the world are not going to help you change the thinking patterns that got you into this situation. As far as the insomnia itself I find it better not to stress out about the fact that you are not sleeping. After all you have no real control when your brain puts you to sleep. Trying to control it will always backfire as it sends a message to your brain that you are not Okay with not sleeping and are going to fight it. Running to the cupboard for Tylenol or Advil PM drinking Chamomile tea and taking Ambien are all examples of how you might be proving to your brain how important sleep is and the steps you are willing to take to try to control something that is really out of your control. The best advice I could give you is to go to bed at about the same time each night and tell your brain that you don’t care if it let you sleep or not. Cover your clocks in the room so you don’t clock watch. Your brain might not let you sleep on day one and you will be tired the next day. You will live however. On day two your brain might not let you sleep either and you will be even more tired. Your brain will eventually give in and give you the sleep you need. After you really give up trying to control sleep you brain will relax and put you to sleep. I have OCD or used to anyway. I learned that if you place too much importance on things that your brain does randomly on its own like popping strange thoughts or ideas in your head or trying to control natural bodily functions like sleep your brain will flag those things as very important to you when the happen and cause you distress by sending you pain in a number of ways such as Anxiety. Its always best to not fight the brain. You wont win.

Wow Lexapro has the least side effects? For me it was worse than the condition itself. I better stay away from these things.
