Accutane is a nasty drug that has been taken off the market due to all the personal injury lawsuits associated with it. The generics are still available however. Accutane is also a 5-AR inhibitor just like Finasteride and can cause horrendous permanent physical, mental, and sexual side effects. Accutane and Finasteride are different substances but they do share similar mechanisms and both work as permanent anti-androgens. Accutane can also cause immune system related disorders and neurological related side effects. I do realize that my extreme suffering caused by Accutane is in the minority so I do feel that patients with extremely severe acne should have the choice to take the drug, but I do not see how these risks could be properly conveyed to the public. Accutane has also been associated with severe gastrointestinal disorders resulting in the removal of one’s colon/large intestine. I do want to see Dr.Mariano in the near future but would like him to see the possible outcomes of any 5-AR inhibitor usage, however ‘rare’ they may be, Accutane included. I am very pleased with this website and want to thank Dr.Mariano for his very helpful information that could possibly alleviate my long term Accutane side effects.
