After starting my thyroid replacement i began having adrenal symptoms at first mild but now much worse with weight loss, salt cravings, very little appetite, frequent flu-like illness, weakness, constant thirst.
I just did a cortisol saliva to see what was going on while on Thyroid.
It is interesting to note that with untreated hashimoto’s thyroidits i had “normal” cortisol and elevated ACTH above range. Which pretty much would confirm what i’m talking about.
Has anyone else had this experience and what dose of cortisol are you on?

i would check renin levels to see if they are elevated if they are then you and your Dr need to look at potentially ACTH resistance.
October 1, 2009 at 6:17 pm #3668wonderingMemberStarting Armour put me in the ER and resulted in such extreme anxiety, I didn’t leave the house for almost a month. Progressively upped my HC to 25mg a day and got back on Armour.
After 20 months, I am down to 15mg a day of HC and 180mg of Nature Thyroid.

Luckily all thanks to you HAN am finally near the end of my health issues i can taste it.
I am doing morning blood work for these:
ACTH
Cortisol
Aldosterone
ReninI have also began to have joint pains that moves around and foul smelling gas. Poor wound healing. But the salt and sugar cravings with decreased appetite are what really pointed me toward adrenal issues. If i squat down
or something and get back up i am sometimes very dizzy feel like spinning, and sometimes just feeling apathy.
Can’t think or do anything. Also when i check my blood glucose it is always low or hypoglycemic.
Zombie like fatigue and muscle weakness are probably my two most outstanding symptoms.
I have not heard of ACTH resistance but will look into it. From what it says elevated ACTH and low cortisol and normal electrolytes it might be me. My electrolytes on blood work always appear normal. Will have to wait and see what blood work says.
Wondering… i am curious what your ACTH and cortisol levels we’re before you started armour for your hypothyroidism if you had these tested?
October 2, 2009 at 11:22 am #3678corky1121MemberMy ACTH before any thyroid treatment was 9, and my 8am cortisol was 15. Then several months later my ACTH was as high as 42, but someone said it could be because at the time I was nervous during the blood draw when the needle fell out and i was bleeding all over and then they had to puncture me again and it hurt like the dickens.
October 2, 2009 at 11:47 am #3579hardasnails1973MemberI have seen peoples ACTH go all over the place. I even had one person that was taking a nasal spray before bed that tripled his ACTH but not his cortisol serums. The body is a very tricky organism so one has to expect surprises. There are some people that are paradoxal which go against the grain. This condition makes them even more difficult to treat.

Haha thats interesting.
In regards to saliva cortisol testing i recently did mine when i was quite unactive in the day mostly at home does this have any relevance? would a active day have been better to do the test?

Yes it could very easily affect your levels. The reason I recommend to do it one a day that is normal is because it will give a better indication.

Well i do have extra pack of the saliva test they gave me and the one i did was yesterday although i didn’t post it yet because it is saturday today and it can be posted only on mondays so what you reckon chuck it out and redo on more normal day?
Also a lot of my symptoms have been improved with Mito-Cell support. With this product i find much better energy, ability to think, ability to digest/eat foods, and general well-being relaxation. Since i tested and we found Mitochondrial Dysfunction this could yet be another piece of the puzzle maybe a main piece.
Off-topic are their any mitochondrial products you would highly recommend to someone like me?
I am trying to look at whole picture like you mentioned i try to focus on multiple issues which i think are the main ones:
Methylation
Thyroid/Adrenals
Nutrients (Vitamins, Minerals, EFA’s)
Gut function – Probiotics, Digestive enzymes, Oxbile, Betaine HCL.
Mitochondria
Mercury (Heavy Metal Poisoning)
Food sensitivity/intolerance/Coeliac – Gluten/Diary avoidance
More Quality sleep of sufficient durationI think these are the main issues for most people with health problems anyway.
So basically i am using SAMe, P5P and Methylcobalamin for methylation support, nutrients including a comprehensive multi-vitamin, hemp seed oil, EVCO and nut butters for fats. Mito-Cell for mitochondrial functioning, the chelation product for mercury which we talked about which i’m awaiting to arrive and thats it.
Sometimes i am still amazed at wtf people are doing at doctors offices when they come in with their complains.
All i see is if a person comes in a tooth ache they are thrown a med, back ache heres another, Weight gain – well why don’t you eat less when that person could be eating very little and so forth… very few doctors are getting to the root causes these days and people are becoming sicker and sicker.October 3, 2009 at 5:20 am #3601MetalMXMemberI have tried isocort a trial of it.
I take 1 pill and end up feeling more exhausted then ever as well as mentally feeling like shit.
Until saliva gets back i won’t know anything but these symptoms could simply be mimicking adrenal issues when my cortisol might come back completely normal.
October 4, 2009 at 5:17 pm #3593pmgamer18MemberDid you know you need to work up to 8 pills a day of Isocort that would be = to 20 mgs of cortisol. You can’t take one pill and say it did not work you need to work your way up the the 8 pills doing 2 pills every 4 hrs. of if your in bad shape in the morning do 4 pills the 2 at lunch and dinner. Here is a FAQ’s I helped make it’s full of some dam good info about this problem and treating it.

October 5, 2009 at 4:30 pm #3669wonderingMemberI did not test ACTH.
My 8AM Cortisol was 13 when I first tried Armour.

October 8, 2009 at 9:16 am #3602MetalMXMemberWhat has happened to me now is that i switched from Armour to Slow Release T3 thinking this would be better boy was i wrong.
I was on it for about 3-4 weeks. And i began having the same symptoms as before i began thyroid replacement now even worsening muscle weakness/muscle loss and a feeling of losing my mind and all interest in activities and severe tingling in arms and legs and back of my head even down the spine. I can trace this back to hypothyroid neuropathy. I only hope my nerves can recover.
Slow Release T3 is an absolute crock of shit, it doesn’t even work whatsoever it’s like taking placebo/Sugar pills, which could have killed me if i didn’t figure out what was going on.
Just more stress on my already weak body.
😡
October 8, 2009 at 12:57 pm #3581hardasnails1973MemberI told you 😮
its a scam one can just use plain t-3 to get the same results and since its compounded you have no clue the accuracy of the caps. You are trusting the pharmacist not a drug manufacture. if you went to t3 you may have fried your adrenals.Isocort is not recommended if you have high norephinpherine levels. It will make you more anxious and nervious.

How about when a compounding pharmacist makes testosterone? How realiable is this, wouldnt you also have to trust the pharmacist and not a drug manufacture?
