Treated with various forms of Thyroid for 12 years.
I was on dessicated thyroid for a few years.

Last October, started HC— up to as much as 40, now in the process of weaning and down to 20.
    Eating well.
    Working out– resistance and cardio.
Added straight T3 on April 6th.

I’m also on my third month of Progesterone– Progest E.
Stopped testosterone cream as HAN said it’s NOT the thing to do when low in DHEA.

*Can’t take ANY amount of DHEA. Makes my breasts SO sore and heavy.
*Tried Pregnenolone– same effects as DHEA.

I really want to see Dr. M mid-October.
But, in the meantime, I’m sick of being fat, cranky, absent of libido and more…..

When using cortisol for an adrenal support treatment, either testosterone or DHEA may be used as the androgen to help reduce side effects from using cortisol, i.e., to balance cortisol.

DHEA can be more problematic in some women than testosterone since it go through more metabolic pathways – such as the estrogens, yet does not have as much androgen signaling power as testosterone to counteract the effects of the estrogens.

DHEA usually can’t be tolerated in high doses in women, making it difficult to improve DHEA signaling much. The limit for many women is about 12.5 mg a day.

Pregnenolone has even more possible metabolites than DHEA, thus can be problematic in some.

One may want to see exactly what the progesterone E is doing.
Since it is an oral based formula it would be wise to do the progesterone and e2 blood spot test from ZRT labs to see where levels are at. You may also have a predisposition of alteration of estrogen metabolites of 2/16 hydrox estrones which may explain why you can not handle dhea. Knowing a person that has a past history of hypothyroidism these metabolic pathways need to be checked to prevent any further chances of cancer if there is a history. I have mentioned numerous times on several different boards how crucial testing these metabolites are for women on HRT. As Dr M has mentioned in several posts about proper estrogen metabolism also needs to be examined. 7 keto low dosages may be an alternative source to dhea for women because it claims “not to convert to sex hormones”, but there has debates about this.

If I do the e2 and progesterone blood spot test from ZRT, will that tell me how my estrogens are metabolizing?

Thank you for your comments and thank you Dr. M for the deletion of HAN’s comment- muct appreciated.

To check estrogen metabolites the cheapest what is to go through Genova Diagnostics and get the estrogen random spot for 2,16,4, methyl estrones. I believe the panel was Women’s Estroessence. I believe Median Valley also has one as well. Its probably the best investment a women on HRT can make. ZRT will just show you progesterone and estrodial levels.

Good to see DR M has sense of humor 🙂

I can’t order that test, correct?
A doctor has to do it for me?

Also, when you recommend that 24 vials of blood be taken– what are the tests you recommend I get?

This is one of them as well as
    http://www.rheinlabs.com/hp.html

If I had my choice given your situation the best way probably would be for economic stand point. One can order individual test 2,16 hydrox estrone random spot from genova (35 each) then get progesterone and e2 from ZRT blood spot for $35 a piece. For $140 you can have your answer compared to $226 for each time for time for rheins urine test. When using oral formulation blood serum is needed to track it properly. If you went to TD progesterone then saliva would be used. Dr has to order these labs from Genova or Rhein Labs. Blood work which is run by us is extremely comprehensive resulting in up to 24 vials of blood taken for people that have insurance. In the long run taking all this blood saves a lot of unneccessary hastle and medical expenses down the road. Example if a person hormonal imbalances is caught and addressed now.. Think about the potential of that person not having to go through years of hospitalization for other disorders which could have been nipped in the butt at the beginning.

    Thanks, HAN.
I can’t get these ordered from the doc until I see him– October 23rd.
Sure wish I could get them sooner and start this process.

    Anyway, thanks for the information.
I do have insurance that won’t pay for the doc visit, but will pay for the blood tests.
