Major depressive disorder: probiotics may be an adjuvant therapy.Logan AC, Katzman M.
Nutrition Research Consulting, 50 Yonkers Terrace, 8-J Yonkers, NY 10704, USA. aclnd@cfs-fm.orgMajor depressive disorder (MDD) is an extremely complex and heterogeneous condition. Emerging research suggests that nutritional influences on MDD are currently underestimated. MDD patients have been shown to have elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, increased oxidative stress, altered gastrointestinal (GI) function, and lowered micronutrient and omega-3 fatty acid status. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is likely contributing to the limited nutrient absorption in MDD. Stress, a significant factor in MDD, is known to alter GI microflora, lowering levels of lactobacilli and bifidobacterium. Research suggests that bacteria in the GI tract can communicate with the central nervous system, even in the absence of an immune response. Probiotics have the potential to lower systemic inflammatory cytokines, decrease oxidative stress, improve nutritional status, and correct SIBO. The effect of probiotics on systemic inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress may ultimately lead to increased brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). It is our contention that probiotics may be an adjuvant to standard care in MDD.

I use calcium d glucurate and glutamine, Green Vibrance for women with depression and it works incredible well while removing SIBO ,rebuilding the wall, repopulating the intestinal terrain. Some Bacteria (clostria) can turns one amino acids such as tyroisine and trytophan into poisons into the body. In order to get around this if identified or speculated I use 5 htp and niacin for trytophan metabolism and n acetyl tyrosine to by pass the tyramine issue. When dealing with any kind of emotional imbalance I focus on the balancing the gut and the liver since these are the 2 main places that conversion of amino acid then neurotransmitters are produced (90% in the gut)
November 19, 2009 at 3:41 am #3284MebigusmallMemberHan how do you do that?
What supps and probiotics are best? thanks
November 19, 2009 at 5:18 am #3283hardasnails1973MemberI use homeopathy to open up the enyzmatic pathways so people with compromised digestion system can get the proper nutients they needs in diluted forms. In the process look for altered cytokine signaling to identify if there is any kind of inflammation then heal the wall once these pathways have been opened up the cells can communicate alot better then the food and other stuff we take also will be better ultizied by the cells.
One needs to properly heal the gut
remove
repair
rebuild
reocculateI am finding after balancing the gut and liver then majority of men’s estrogen and need for adex have been reduced. Since taking on this venture people that where on adex for years including my self are now off of it with out an reprocussions. In near future I am going to purchase a zyto machine (about 10 gs) that I have personally used and it was 100% accurate based on my labs and clincal findings from over 6 years ago. It also verified that my body has left over vaccinations that still have not cleared and also identified that I still have staph in my intestinal tract. This machine will add another whole dimension to my practice by running over $50,000 dollars worth of test in matter of 20 minutes with incredible accuracy rate backed by clinical labs test.
After doing a ton of research i am also switchin patients to non magnesium stearate vitamins as this was also identified on the machine that i am taking in way to much of these compenets which is makiing my liver even more sluggish. I use specific liquid vitamins/minerals with natural food supplements to get my supplements. I also use liposomal vitamin C and also will be getting glutathione IV’s soon as well as our practice is going into IV vitamins and minerals therapy as well. This field is ever growing and since I am networking with psychologist, psychiatrist, chiropractors, MD’s, ND’s, ect this give me more contacts and more business opportunties as well. At last conference I introduced a freind of mine to another guy and SOB made $20,000 deal. Atleast I made some ones day. 😀
November 20, 2009 at 5:03 pm #3285MebigusmallMemberthis is kind of random but HAN was talking about liver health. When I sweat during a heavy work out I stink like ammonia, does this suggest any kind of liver strain?
HAN are there any specific symptoms to poor gut health affecting absorbtion.
Could it be beneficial to supplement with hydrolyzed protein since its already broken down?
December 6, 2009 at 6:55 am #3281DrMariano2ParticipantThanks for this contribution, Chip.
I don’t doubt that having adequate intestinal flora is highly important in reducing anxiety.
Without adequate intestinal flora protecting the body at the primary point of entry for infection, the immune system becomes overactive because it has to deal with constant infections in the gut. This in turn overstimulates the sympathetic nervous system, leading to excessive norepinephrine signaling and anxiety.
