This is next new study about ADHD, and the management of executive functions with NMDA antagonist.
I’ve tried for one month 10 mg of memantine for my ADD with modest result. In fact, memantine improve some aspect of cognitive ability, notably speech but for me it’s increase melancholic thinking and put me little depressive !!!
Dr Mariano explain in more details the aspect of memantine :
http://www.definitivemind.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4626&postcount=10ADHD is a prevalent, chronic, persistent neurobiological disorder with childhood onset that is estimated
to affect up to 5% of adults worldwide [1-3]. It is associated with high levels of morbidity and disability including
academic and occupational underachievement, substance abuse, psychiatric comorbidity and car accidents [2,
4, 5]. One of the well documented sources of morbidity and disability in subjects with ADHD is deficits in a
group of high order cognitive functions termed executive functions (EFDs) [6-8] such as planning, initiating,
monitoring, changing, and inhibiting thoughts, feelings, and physical activity. These executive functions are
essential for successful adaptation in occupational and social realms. Although treatment with stimulants has
been found to be safe and effective for the treatment of adults with ADHD [9-11]. The comorbid presence of
EFDs have not been shown to be as responsive to these treatments, calling for efforts to help mitigate them.
Considering that EFDs occur across multiple psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder,
and autism [12-25], and that EFDs meet criteria as a research domain [26], study and management of EFDs is
central to major NIMH goals. Although this study will examine the safety and efficacy of treatment for EFDs in
the context of ADHD, the development of safe and effective treatments for EFDs in subjects with ADHD could
alleviate their morbidity fulfilling the NIMH Strategic Plan to develop new and improved interventions that will facilitate “full and productive lives”[27]September 2, 2012 at 5:38 pm #4833DrMariano2ParticipantIt would be nice if you could find out what the title and author of the article you showed. Otherwise, it isn’t that useful.
