    I have noticed many (all?) medications are some type of salt, (i.e. Diphenhydramine HCl, Fluoxetine HCl, some are KCl).

    Why is this?

    (intereseing note, doing research, I learned diphenhydramine actually “gave birth” to fluoxetine)

    This is probably done to make the product more stable as a solid in a pill or capsule.
