    Hello Dr. Mariano,

I would like your thoughts on what to do regarding low aldosterone symptoms. If one has had low adrenal problems which include low blood pressure, dizziness upon standing, fluctuating pupil response to light and heat intolerance- what are your feelings on using salt to improve symptoms, especially in very hot weather.

How do you feel about Florinef?

I was just wondering about your take on this.

    Thank you, Chris

Chris, I’m curious about that, too.

What if you only have 2 or those symptoms– or has higher blood pressure; which is not characteristic to low aldosterone?

The use of sea salt to supplement one’s diet is one way to address problems with low aldosterone.

Here is David Browntein MD’s book on the subject, Salt Your Way to Health: https://www.drbrownstein.com/bookstore_Salt.php

In very hot weather, a concern would be dehydration, which would increase electrolyte concentrations.

Florinef is an option when aldosterone is low or when a person has orthostatic hypotension, such as with certain medications as a side effect.

Compounded aldosterone is also available in through some compounding pharmacies. However, my experience is only with Florinef. Where compounded aldosterone may be useful is in age-related hearing loss, where low aldosterone is a contributing factor.
