36 yr old male, dx w/ Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism. For yrs I tried to tolerate thyroid meds but always made me feel bad ( armour usually). Currently I’m on 100mcg t4 and 12.5 cytomel and have been feeling the best I have in a while. Took labwork — results are as follows:
Total T4– 10.1 (6.1-11.8)
T3 Free– 5.6 (2.3-4.2) High
TSH — 0.02 (0.4-4.0) LowI didn’t take T3 before bloodwork in the morning. Doesn’t seem like I’m on a high dose of T3( my doctor, a women, is on double my dose). Wondering if this is dangerously high.
Pulse is between 75-83. Also I’ve been on this dose for 6-8 weeks so maybe things will balance over time??? If I lower cytomel i’m thinking of going down a small amount, from 12.5- 10mcg then retest. ANy suggestions, comments?August 30, 2009 at 6:28 pm #3377hardasnails1973Member@raw1973 1573 wrote:

YOu may also want to look at ferritin levels, e2, DHEA -s levels., reverse t3
Probably made you feel bad because you where a hyper converter leaving you with low ft4 and total t4 levels in the brain causing fatigue and may be altered moods. IT appears that you are either a hyper converter or you are pooling t3September 11, 2009 at 9:44 pm #3379keithdolbyMemberWhat are the options if you are a hyper-converter especially if you are supporting the adrenals nicely and you mostly just take T4?

Hyper converters are people that are on natural thyroid. This is the down side of armour leaving little t4 left with in the brain. In order to compensate for this armour may be adding 50 mcgs of T4 to replace the T4 depleted. If you are on t4 and t3 and have high t3 levels please look to adrenals or may want to reduce t-3 levels. When taking blood test it is recommended not to take your meds prior which can result in higher t3 levels.
