Ive been taking about 12grams of Vitamin B5 for about two months now for acne. It works well and ive read some of the studies demonstrating its safety at high doses.
What are the thoughts on this?
In some patients, I have observed that Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5), increases adrenal medullary production of norepinephrine. Thus worsening of blood pressure may be one side effect, for example.
Since I frequently want to improve Adrenal Cortex function, not Medulla function, I generally, these days, no longer use Vitamin B5 in treatment.
I have heard of the use of 10 grams a day of Pantothenic Acid in the treatment of Acne.
There is not much on Med-Line about this. Thus there are no well-known studies on the use of Panthothetic Acid for Acne.
Here is one 1995 article in Medical Hypothesis: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7476595?
Vitamins are safer than any medication as a class – per U.S. Centers for Disease Control statistics.
