    RBC : 4.9 (4.7 – 6.0)
    Hemoglobin : 160 (135-180)
    Hematocrit : 0.469 (0.420 – 0.520)
    MCV : 95 (78-100)
    MCH : 32 (27-34)
    MCHC : 341 (320-360)
    Total Iron : 31 (11-28) High
    UIBC : 35 (20 – 62)
    TIBC : 67 (41 – 77)
    % Saturation : 0.47 (0.2 – 0.5)
    Ferritin : 50.6 (20 – 250)

    My ferritin was 32 3 months ago , that’s all the info I have, and I started taking iron fumarate (100 mg elemental iron a day) and liver and clams to see if i could increase my ferritin.

    Somebody on another site told me my elevated iron and % saturation is indicative that I should stop taking iron. I wanted to increase my ferritin to optimal level to help my chronic fatigue and muscle problems. I know Dr Mariano thinks it’s important to have better level of ferritin.

    I did not eat 10 hours prior this test and didn’t take iron for 3 days as well.

    What should I do now, slow down on supp, stop it, continue?

    Thx, I don’t know what to do right now, don’t have the knowledge about that.

    If you took iron supplements or ate alot of steak the night before then iron levels are reflective of that and not the stored iron as ferritin. Ferritin levels are pretty low and would need to be addressed properly

    In men, I like to see a Ferritin of about 150. In women, about 100-120. Otherwise, cellular metabolism and energy production would be impaired.

    But should I be worried about high blood iron? Is it a sign I’m taking too much, too fast?

    Does hypothyroidism impair the metabolic process of storing iron in ferritin? That could be an explanation :confused:

    Just found that :

    “The iron avid patient has a normal to low ferritin (usually low) but a very high transferrin-iron-saturation percentage (Tsat%). Experts agree that iron avidity is probably the body’s response to not enough iron coming into the system. Hemochromatosis patients who have become iron avid, should discontinue phlebotomies and eat to replenish iron stores.”

    Seems to fit my case, will read more
