I have patients take it the day of the test one hour prior to see if you are absorbing it as well as to see where your levels are at in serum to give some what of an indication your adrenal out put is. I have put people on HC and for some reason when tested they where not absorbing it. Once switched to cortef they had a clincal response as well as labs verified it as well.

Thank you HAN so much for your response… Also, In addition to testing coritsol via blood (12 hr fasting)… is there anything else that can be tested cortisol wise via blood… I just want to make sure that I have all bases covered as far blood testing goes…. I will have the other things covered such as thyroid, Iron, etc… (I will be picking up cortisol saliva kit from the dr’s office, last saliva test was about 3 years ago which revealed beginning stages 1/2 of adrenal Insufficiency/fatigue, my condition has since worsened)

I have been doing blood tests (labwork) for at least the last 6 or more years while monitering various hormone levels including Cortisol for Adrenal Issues. The instructions I have gotten from my Doctor(s) have always been to A. Fast for 12 hours, and B. NOT to take my medication in the morning before my blood draw, which is usually preferred at early morning hours 8-9 a.m. But of course, each persons labwork is specific for their needs and should very well meet the requirements and orders from their respective Physician. I would call the Doctor’s office who wrote you the lab order and ask the Doctor or his/her representative to find out for you so you do the blood draw properly. By the time you get to see your Physician to review your labwork, it may delay or interupt the outcome of your office visit and goal for health recovery etc… which would of course just DELAY more time while perhaps having to go back and do the blood work, schedule another appointment, wait some more, suffer some more, or cause you “More Stress” which of course if you are taking HC 20mg for Adrenal issues, then you most likely could benefit from “NOT ADDING MORE STRESS” to your life, which can cause patients like us more confusion and frustration in dealing with “The Medical System(s)” that CAN become frustrating after awhile. Just thought I would give you something to think about that may help you out 🙂 Finally, you have come to the right website to learn about things that may very well help you learn about some of your health issues ! Good luck , Geno

You should see how many people that have falsely elevated am cortisol when I do blood tests. I use muscle testing if they come in the morning to identify adrenal imbalances and if i get a low reading I will ask them if they were stressed or in a rush when they where on the way to the office or some one pissed them off. Patients are usually blown away of how I am able to pin point this abnormality in serum blood draw. That is why salvia is so much more representative of true readings. We have a nice way to correlate symptoms according to specific time they are happening during the day time. We have several people that are low during the morning then pick up during the afternoon so cortef is just needed in the morning because that is when they are the most fatigue and then as the levels pick up their symptoms are reduced in the afternoon. So it is an incredible evaluation tool in a Dr’s tool bag.
