I have recently tried GABA for sleep (the natural pharma GABA which is supposedly
able, unlike the synthetic GABA, to cross the BBB). I only take 500 mg., which seems
to work to relax me back into sleep when I awaken at 3 am, but sometimes I have a
strange side effects. GABA seems to slow my breathing WAY down, which I notice as
I’m drifting off, to the point that I awaken gasping for air and experiencing more than
the usual number of PVC’s (premature ventricular contractions) on the following day.

The same thing happens with L-Tryptophan.

I have long term CFS, with heavy metals in my system and some hormonal issues I
am working on. Getting the deep sleep is important, and rare, so this is very frustrating.

Does anyone have any explanation for this?
