i started to feel crappy yesterday and feel terrible tonight. i cant sleep and so i have come on here to pour my heart out.
For the last week i have felt amazing. Energy has been amazing and i have been very hungry.
i saw the endo last week and he will prescribe thyroxine for me. hoping to start that next week. because i saw this doctor i had some hope and i think this has triggered something in me to become well. it is just so strange. nothing else has changed except i shifted taking the Hc 5mg to lunchtime only.
Whenever i take a new drug or vitamin i always get a placebo effect and i feel really well. Can anyone explain this for me.
i am taking 2 grains of armour, Dr wilson adrenal dynamite and HC at 5mg a day.
i have been trying to address my health problems for 15 mths now and i am a lot better, but i am still ill for a lot of the time. i absolutely hate the feeling i have at this moment.
does anyone know if only having one working testicle will affect my health. i produce 17 nmol of testosterone and so am in range. i am addressing my thyroid function and adrenal function but wonder if testosterone function needs looking at?
July 31, 2009 at 12:09 am #2978menrfrommarsMembermy dhea is low in the daytime and i take 25mgs. should i be taking 50mgs? is this likley to change anything?
August 1, 2009 at 3:16 pm #2979menrfrommarsMemberfeeling better. that night i took 2.5mgs of HC and everything calmed down half hour later. i had played football that night and the stress had probably pushed by adrenals too much.
been fine ever since. taking 5mg hc at lunch and 2,5mg at 5pm.
started thyroxine today instead of the armour and i will see how i go on.

The placebo effect is the effect of a change in one’s belief system causing change in physiology. It is a true effect. It is the effect of software on hardware, psychology on physiology. Unfortunately, if the underlying hardware / physiological problems are still present and not fully corrected by the software / psychological change, then the effect is overwhelmed by the hardware problem. If this change causes a negative change in one’s belief system (e.g. that the substance taken does not work), then one has both a negative hardware change and a negative software change. This can be overwhelming.
In a way, this is why religion is such a powerful force. It has nearly always a positive effect on one’s belief system in good times and bad times. Unfortunately, the placebo effect only works in good times – and thus is subject to change.

One testicle can work just fine. One of my 50 y.o. patients had a testosterone of 1000 ng/dL on one testicle.
As men age, having one or two would not matter. Both would age, the pituitary would age, etc. and the whole system would not be able to signal for or produce enough testosterone. Thus monitoring is useful.
August 5, 2009 at 5:50 pm #2980menrfrommarsMemberi have experienced the placebo effect again this weekend after taking thyroxine.
i felt so well again – strong, weight loss around stomach, happy, relaxed.
started to feel very tired again today. feeling very sleepy driving home this afternoon.
i just cant stand feeling like this and i have no where to turn.
i am really stuck on what is not working with me. i wonder if i need more thyroxine.

Thyroxine (T4) takes about 6 weeks to peak and plateau in blood level.
Because of this, if a person receives too high of an initial dose, the person may go through stages where thyroid hormone signaling is initially becomes good, then later becomes excessive.
Fatigue can be a symptom of excessive thyroid hormone signaling. This can make it difficult to distinguish from suboptimal thyroid signaling unless the physician looks for other signs and symptoms to help distinguish these two conditions. To make it easier, a lab test can be done to determine what Total T4 and Free T3 levels a person may have, to see if adjustments need to be made.
Without further assessment, dosage adjustments would be like taking stabs in the dark at an unseen target. It is far better to know where one stands before making a change up or down.
August 6, 2009 at 5:15 pm #2981menrfrommarsMemberi will be staying on 100mgs for a month and then i get tested. so i will wait and see.
August 7, 2009 at 2:36 am #2977gu3varaMemberDid you test thyroid hormones before switching to Synthroid, Armour might have nothing to do with how you feel.
Did you have a saliva cortisol test done in the past? 5 mg HC is a really low dose
August 7, 2009 at 9:16 am #2982menrfrommarsMemberi havent had a blood test done while on armour. the reason i am switching to t4 is so i can get treatment on the nhs here in uk. i will now be monitored rather than just go on feelings.
i tested cortisol in june on a bad day. i wasnt stressed, just very tired and ill that day and it shows my adrenals work ok, but could be better.
8am – 15.6 (12-22)
noon = 2.7 (5-9) LOW
4pm 3.4 (3-7)
night 0.9 (1-3)dhea am 0.83 (0.4-1.47)
dhea pm 0.84 (0.4-1.47)

To optimize thyroid hormone function, it is important to have adequate intake of B-Vitamins and to have adequate iron.
Adequate intake of animal fats with fat soluble vitamins is important. Vitamin A (retinol) magnifies the thyroid hormone signal. Without adequate Vitamin A, thyroid hormone signaling strength is reduced even when thyroid hormone is at a good level.
Iron would be measured by a Ferritin level. Generally, for men, an good ferritin level would be around 150 ng/mL.
