I’m gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that there is probably not one factory made protein drink or shake that is good for you and doesn’t contain harmful ingredients. You can make your own and bring it with you in a stainless steel thermos. Here is a recipe I copied from the Weston A. Price Foundation website:

” Smoothies are a nice way to get in extra nutrients and calories. Start with a base of raw milk and add either yogurt or kefir for the probiotics. Try adding a raw egg yolk and açai berry (available in the frozen food section of most health food stores) for an antioxidant boost. Many cod liver oils can also be camouflaged into a yummy-tasting smoothie. Include one or more of these nutrient-dense extras: coconut oil, milk, or cream (not lite), nut butters, avocado, spirulina, acerola powder, or cocoa or carob powder.”

Are you in a state where you can get raw milk? If not then at least get organic, whole milk, non-homogenized -and not ultra-pasturized. You can use a little stevia powder for sweetness or raw honey or organic maple syrup. If you can get eggs from pastured chickens then all the better. Or at least organic “free-range” eggs. Raw cream, if you can get it, is great in a smoothie as well.

It’s all about using REAL food.

    Thanks wapf fan,

I would have to say that the hemp protein is probably good for you. I see nothing in the ingredients that would indicate otherwise. The ingredients I have is just raw organic hemp protein. The main reason I am interested in these protein shakes is that I am trying to find a healthy way to add more calories to my diet.

Well websites like true protein and protein factory ect. Let you choose the raw powder source and you cam even leave out everything else. I don’t know much about this kind of thing but what could be bad about that.

Because it is processed. If they said it was just “hemp” that would be different but as soon as they call it “hemp protein” that means they somehow took protein out of the hemp. As soon as something like protein is removed from a whole food (very probably by chemicals and/or high heat) then it is a processed food and your body does know what to do with it and it can actually create havoc in the body. That is exactly what has been done with flour (now it is encriched white flour) and sugar (now it is super refined white sugar). Those used to be whole foods and now they are not. So it is the same with ANY food designed by a food scientist in a laboratory with the intention of selling it for more money than it would have been worth in its original form. It’s about money-not your health. If you want hemp then purchase whole hemp. If you want to add more calories then follow the nutrient-dense diet Dr. M. recommends. Plenty of healty fats like real butter, lard (not the hydrogenated stuff in the store), cocounut oil, palm oil, tallow, whole milk (preferrably raw) and cream (preferrably raw), grass-fed meat with its fat, whole eggs etc. People have been nourished on that food for thousands of years. And didn’t have heart attacks, cancer, diabetes, etc like we do now. How did we come to populate the earth like we have? Eating all the stuff that God put on the earth for us! It tastes great! It fills you up! It is healthy! It prevents depression!

I was just looking at a website called whfoods.com, seemed like a pretty good website devoted to the best foods available. It has a list of 129 foods that they like the best in terms of health, availability, etc.

I looked at it and see a few problems. He says “The World’s Healthiest Foods are also whole foods complete with all their rich natural endowment of nutrients. They have not been highly processed nor do they contain synthetic, artificial or irradiated ingredients…” Yet in his list of The World’s Healthiest Foods he recommends low-fat milk and low-fat cheese. When you take the fat out it is not whole. And low-fat milk is extremely processed. They “standardize it” (take it apart), pasteurize it (high heat that kills benificial bacteria and enzymes) and homogonize it (apply extreme pressure to it so the fat globules don’t seperate out into cream and float to the top). They then add powdered skim milk back to it to add body. Powdered milk contains oxidized cholesterol. Bad. I don’t see how anyone could call that a “whole food complete with all their rich and natural endowment of nutrients”. He also promotes the use of polyunsaturated fats. Those are the vegetable oils we have been told to consume instead of animal fats. Heart disease has skyrocketed since the introduction of vegetable oils. Really the best book is the one Dr. M. recommended. THAT is real, whole food. And you also learn proper cooking techniques that have been forgotten over the generations. The author of the book is the founder of the Weston A. Price Foundation, a non-profit organization. See what they say about food and health. All your answers are there on the website. You don’t need to buy a thing. All claims are backed up with science and also refernces so you can do your own further research.

It is very much necessary for a person to have a healthy diet as healthy diet lead to have a healthy body and fitness, diet should be rich in vitamins, proteins and other energy sources, if diet is not health then a person might be suffer from various diseases.
