Hear is what it’s all about if your adrenals are over worked and not making enough Cortisol then don’t drink Coffee it can stress them even more. This is called Primary if your like me Secondary meaning my pituitary dose not tell my adrenals to made Cortisol then Coffee even helps me feel more energy.

Excessive stress/norepinephrine signaling may lead to HPA Axis dysregulation with low cortisol signaling. This includes conditions called “adrenal fatigue”.

Often, people resort to the use of stimulants such as caffeine when they have HPA Axis dysregulation to attempt improvement in function. This may improve cortisol production.

This does run the risk of worsening HPA Axis dysregulation.

If HPA Axis dysregulation worsens past a certain point, stimulants stop working. Cortisol production no longer improves, and the person experiences increased/uncontrolled stress signaling. I often see this in children given excessive stimulant treatment for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

When HPA Axis dysregulation occurs, ideally stimulants are either avoided or used in low doses. Coffee, for example, would be limited to 1-2 cups a day.

Often when AM Cortisol is under 10, stimulant treatment is not well tolerated.
