Doing well on LevoT, but i have a question about my high T3 reading.
i saw the endo today and he is happy for me to work out what level of T4 i need. Currently coming down from 150 to 137.5. Target may be 125.
i have a T4 of 24 (8-23) and a T3 of 7.4 (3.5-6.5)
The endo thought i was still taking armour because the T3 reading was high. I am not, just the levoT.
He said the cells were using the T4 and then spitting out the T3 and he wasnt sure why. Does anyone know instead?
Is this simply me not being able to absorb the T3 due to lack of cortisol maybe?
I am feeling good, so all is well at the moment.
September 23, 2009 at 6:02 pm #3536MebigusmallMemberDo you still feel hypo at all? I wonder if cortisol is the problem or if a resistance is possible? I don’t know enough but it’s interesting.
September 23, 2009 at 6:45 pm #3528hardasnails1973MemberIf your total levels are elevated and you are on a small dosage of t4 then it may be a cortisol issues. i would get a cortisol salvia test done if you are not on cortef at all to verify this. One may also be experiencing thyroid resistance due to thyroid being low for so long and properly getting treated. I would also look at reverse t3 to see what ratio of total t3, ft3:rt3. What about ferritin levels as well as other hormone levels?
September 23, 2009 at 9:28 pm #3534menrfrommarsMemberi have had a saliva test done in june 09 and it shows normal rhythm, but the overall level of cortisol is lower than it could be. Basically my adrenals produce good am levels and then tank to be bottom of the range for the rest of the day.
being on levoT 150mcgs made me well, but i think i was getting small signs of being hyper (hot in the face, slight palps).
Currently not feeling good today, feel tired and low. i get this every week to 10 days, for a day or two.
i am thinking of doing the HC again, but i seem to feel worse if a take a 2,5mg dose.
any idea of what i should do? i thought about just going for 3 x 5mg doses tomorrow to see if that hits it.
ferritin is fine (115) and i take b12 which was low. Testosterone is fine.
Hardasnails said a “small dosage”. i take it you read my post, so is 150 a small dosage then? i thought it was average.
not able to get rt3 tested here.
September 23, 2009 at 10:27 pm #3529hardasnails1973Member10 mgs a day for cortisol is a tease. It is just enough to shut you down. males need 15 mgs to over ride this problem.

September 24, 2009 at 12:35 pm #3531hardasnails1973Member150 mcgs of t-4 is approximately equal to 1.5 grains of armour provided one is converting properly and do not have issue with tissue response. If you feel good then do not touch it. 5 mgs cortef may that be needed to give you that extra thyroid absorption at the tissue
September 26, 2009 at 1:30 pm #3533MetalMXMemberIs thyroid resistance even possible or would it just be due to cortisol abnormalities?
If their is some possible thyroid resistance regardless of cortisol what can be done about it?
I am experiencing ongoing hypo symptoms with Slow Release T3. Just feels like it is not working and am still experiencing peripheral neuropathy like symptoms feels like my peripheral circulation particularly to my arms is just not their.

Is it possible to not have to fully replace thyroid and continue using a only a grain? Or will that grain partially suppress the thyroid and require full replacement.

As long as the thyroid is being replaced some people need one grain others need 3 grains it all depends on how long they have been low and what other factors need to be explored to why they are low. Cellular resistance to thyroid can be due to alter cell signalling due to low ferrritin, heavy metals, estrogen , or cortisol imbalance. I beleive 1/2 grain will tease the thyroid same as like less then <10-15 mgs will cause a response similar to androgel for testosterone. Your body senses just enough and it will shut down its own and you run on the amount being supplied resutling in lower levels then what you started out with.
