I was prescribed adderall and take 20 mg xr in the morning and 5 – 10 mg short acting later, if needed.

I take a break from both my two slow days per week, and I try to take at least a week (or longer, depending on work; I’ve been slow and not taken it in almost a month).

I did not do well on ritalin or Concerta (long acting ritalin).

Are any of the other newer ADD meds of value?

Dexedrine may be useful. It was also repackaged in a long-acting version called Vyvanse.

Dexedrine takes an intermediate place in the spectrum of stimulants between Methylphenidate/Concerta and Adderall/Mixed Amphetamine Salts. It may increase stress less strongly than Adderall does.

I have heard Dexedrine can be a very “clean” stimulant.

What is the fundamental difference between how a drug like Dexedrine and Adderall work? Is it just like different types of SSRIs can do different things to different people?

My doc actually gave me a script for the Vyvanse yesterday, I’m trying it today. I can tell you already (45 minutes into dose) it’s definitely different than Adderall, which is why I pose the question.

Unless the feeling I have is transient or placebo, I feel more “slowed down” than I do on the Adderall.
