I’ve found two studies regarding changes in plasma norepinephrine levels following meditation.

I could only find reference to the first here: (See Hoffman et al. 1982)

The second was a follow up to the first by Morrell et al. 1986)

These studies basically state that plasma levels of NE are higher during a stressful activity following a 30 day period of meditation practice. However, they state that due to problems with the experiment further investigation is needed.

Can anyone make sense of this or is there another study out there which confirms the effect of meditation on NE and the sympathetic nervous system?

    Thank you.

This study reviewed a survey that found increased plasma levels of norepinephrine during isometric grip after 30 days of meditation practice. As the hemodynamic activity did not show a corresponding increase, it has been suggested that meditation was regulated in the cardiovascular response to stimulation.Serotonin sympathetic neurotransmitter involved in transmission of nerve impulses.
