I’ve been thinking about the difference between “autoimmune disease” and “overactive immune system”.

Is an “autoimmune disease” just a specific diagnosis of an “overactive immune system”?

I see “autoimmune” used when talking about MS, Crohn’s, Asthma,… But “overactive immune system” when talking about anxiety, mood disorders,…

Is the target of the autoimmune disease necessarily the cause or is it an innocent bystander to an overstimulated immune system?

And finally, Can an autoimmune disease be cured by eliminating whatever is stimulating the immune system?

Yes an autoimmune disease would be classified as a specific diagnosis of an overactive immune system

An autoimmune disease is when the immune system mistakenly attacks ones own body tissues leading to some kind of disease process. In MS it is the Myelin Sheath coating the nerves, It Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis it is the thyroid gland, In Systemic Lupus it can be any organ or tissue.

An overactive immune system can cause things such as anxiety and mood disorders and so forth but then we ask ourselves why the immune system is overactive in the first place. This can be due to hidden allergies, hidden infections/inflammation within the body as well as hormone imbalances which can trigger an overactive immune system.

So could someone be cured of Lupus if the underlying cause of the inflammation/infection etc. were to be discovered and corrected?

if it was some sort of inflammation what could it be caused by?

Well, I know little about autoimmune and that is Autoimmune diseases are conditions in which the immune system attacks and destroys healthy body tissues. In these disorders, the cells of the immune system mistake healthy tissue for foreign or abnormal cells such as bacteria or viruses and mount an immune response.
