I’ve been on trt for some time now along with treatment for thyroid and adrenals. All my lab results look terrific, but no libido. I’ve taken a test (catecholamines) for dopamine level and the results came back extremely low. On a range of 40-100, I came in at 39 which is below the low range. I have two issues going on here and I’ll explain. In the past when I first did trt with past doctor my dopamine levels would increase greatly when estrogen was in corrected resulting in greater focus and libido increase. My past doctor was an idiot and I could never sustain my libido or focus. My current doctor is on top of everything unlike my past one. I’ve alway had ADD since childhood but never got it treated then.
Here are the drugs I’ve been prescribed to help with low dopamine.
Adderall (make me too focused to the point where I can’t carry articulate conversation, and feel sorta high, and burns me out the next morning badly)Concerta (did not make me over focused, but doesn’t last all day)
Wellbutrin (made me focused, but at higher doses gave me anxiety attacks)
Deprenyl (just has not done anything close to those other meds for increasing dopamine.)All of these increase libido, but deprenyl and there is one major issue.
These increase sexual thoughts through the day, but don’t stimulate any erections except for early in the morning while on it. Off the meds I get libido and erections spikes for an hour every morning and it dies after that for the rest of the day.I’ve read other members on some chat rooms with the same issues. They get libido spike in the morning for an hour or so and it goes completely dead after.
What would case this strange problem? Estrogen metabolism?
September 22, 2009 at 11:30 am #3513DSmossMemberI’ve posted this same issue on other forums and still can’t believe that no one really knows or has dealt with any similar issue. I’ve read other posts from members that have this issue as well, but no expertise can give insight into what causes it or how to fix it.

Estrogen metabolism is a new field of exploration in the alternative and HRT medicine. How that is going to effect the neurotransmitters is only speculation, but from my clinical experience the body has a hard time distinguishing between xeno estrogens and estrodial since they occupy the same receptors. So you may have an over flood of estrogen that may be blocking proper neurotransmitters signaling. The only thing I can say is test and see. You may want to do a nutra eval to look to see where your other levels are at via urine as well as EFA metabolism which could be altered resulting in poor membrane permeability.
Insulin can also alter things as well so you may want to have an total and free insulin test for insulin resistance. -
