I feel like I’m finally finding people that I can relate too. Sometimes I just don’t know how much longer I can keep pushing myself to keep getting through each day. Phil replied to a post of mine in another forum and pointed me in this direction. Hopefully I am in the right place. Here are my biggest symptoms in order of most distressing: depression (diagnosed dysthymic), heat intolerance, sweating, aches and pains, dry patches of skin (upper arms and now forehead), and frequent urination. There are many more symptoms but these are the ones that jump out to me. I am a 35 year old man, about 30-40 pounds overweight, I don’t hardly exercise except for a softball league (which I love but kicks my butt) and now believe I’ve been dealing with depression and fatigue since I was a teenager. It’s slowly gotten worse over time but seems to have progressed more rapidly within the past couple of years. I sought help for depression (finally) about 2.5 years ago and started SSRI treatment. Since then, I’ve tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s without much success. I’ve also self diagnosed and then confirmed by a psychiatrist ADHD without hyperactivity and have tried Concerta for that. That is the one drug I’ve noticed a change with. Not miraculous but a difference. Not so sleepy in the afternoon and a little more focused. I still believe there is something that is the root cause for my issues and that’s why I’m here. I’ve been to a psychologist, two general practitioners, a psychiatrist and most recently and endocrinologist. The endo didn’t think i had a pituitary or thyroid problem but wants me to treat the low testosterone. He prescribed Clomid 1/2 tablet for 6 weeks followed by 1/4 tablet for 6 weeks. Very nice guy but he’s not seeing everything, in my opinion. I would love to hear what all of you think. Below is a link to a spreadsheet of all my labs that I’ve had to date. Thank you in advance for your input and support.

September 13, 2009 at 5:17 pm #3457wonderingMemberoh yes, you can be helped.
Your Cortisol is low, Ferritin is low, Testosterone is low, Vitamin D3 is low.
Who knows what else is buried in there, but these are biggies. How can a Dr. miss these? amazing.
Where are you from?

I’m glad somebody else feels the same way. I don’t know how none of these ever seem to standout to doctors. Very frustrating. I live in Las Vegas and don’t have much hope of finding a good doc here. Phil recommends Dr. M, so I would just have to drive into California. Dr. M, if you read this, I would love to know what you thinkg. Can’t wait to here advice and suggestions from all of you too.
Thank you!! I finally feel like I’m connecting with people who understand.

I have the phone number from Phil but I don’t have the email address. Can you give it to me? Thanks!!
I would be more than happy to go to California if I thought it would help me.
September 15, 2009 at 5:51 pm #3462DBallMemberOk, I sent an email to inquire about making an appointment. I feel optimistic that I can get things worked out.
I would love to hear what some of you think about my labs and possible causes…
Also, I drink soda several times a day. Could that be the cause of all my problems? I love diet dr.pepper and probably drink 5 or 6 cans a day. Doesn’t seem to keep me up though. I can drink soda before bed and fall right asleep. I am also a meat eater. I’ve had several people look at my labs and ask if I was a vegetarian. Also, I am taking a low dose of a SNRI while a I try to wean off. Haven’t had much luck with anti-depressants.
Take care,
DougSeptember 15, 2009 at 6:15 pm #3471MebigusmallMemberI don’t think diet doctor dr pepper has caffine. I drink a lot diet pepsi, way more than 6 cans but am doing well either.

Take care,
DougI drink way more diet soda than that. I also think Diet dr pepper is caffeine free but not sure. I am trying to quit as I have heard and can imagine how bad the artificial sweetners are for you. I have also heard that some doctors feel the coloring or dies in foods can contribute to ADD. I really need to try harder my self to quit.
I wonder if the artificial sweetner could possible contribute to some kind of brain to body disregulation, I have heard other people mention that the sweetner can still cause a mild insulin responce because brain perceives the sweetness as real sugar or food. I am curious if this could cause contrast between which is actually going on in the body and what the brain perceives is going on, maybe affecting TSH or something?
This is just a question, with my very minimal understanding and am not saying this is so. I would love to hear what others think. I use lots of protein powder that has sweetner in it, so I hope not. Thanks

Please don’t get offended because believe me dude, I would like to help you, as I have searched for help myself for many, many years !! And yes, I have finally had gotten sooooo depressed, tired, and downright fed up with receiving “The minimum/and/or a Ban-Aid” type of treatment for about 13 or so years from various doctor’s from various disciplines, which after doing my own research and study of “My symptoms” and ailments, very similar to yours, and I have complete Health and Prescription Insurance which has paid for at least 20 different doctors, and at least (50 prescription medications !!!!!!) Yes! FIFTY (50) DIFFERENT types of Rx Medications, which either did not help, or made things worse for me ! Well my friend, even though I am on SSI Disability, Medicare-Medi-Cal, Unable to work etc…. 46 yrs old and live on a Government SSI check of$850.00 per month, I found Dr. M, which I am lucky to live in the same county as his office, and I didn’t pay my vehicle registration, skipped a month on my car insurance, didn’t pay my rent for a month etc…. and I used whatever money I could scrape up to go and see Dr. M !!! Guess what, In 1 or 2 office visits with him, I was treated Medically, diagnosed etc… and put on a treatment plan etc… ‘BETTER THAN 20 other Doctors and 13 years or more of searching for “The Proper Medical Treatment” If you are fed up with how you feel about your health Doug, I think it would be worth it to travel to California to see him. It may be an “Out of Pocket” expense, but you must decide yourself what is more important to you!! For me, I felt better just meeting ” A True Physician” in Dr. M. Do your homework Doug, you are worth it! My 2 cents would be, and don’t be offended please, If you need to loose some weight, try to do it! If you drink too much alcohol, cut down, or try to quit, drugs???? Believe me dude, I was ready to give up on “The healthcare system” and I lost faith in alot of Doctor’s that have “Went thru the motions of “Treating Me” etc… Only you can truly decide on “What’s best for you” Good Luck! And “NO” I don’t work for Dr. M nor do I have any kind of deal in promoting him etc… Just trying to help someone out like Doug, who seems to truly want to be helped. Reading thes Forums on the site is a great place to start in educating yourself on health matters.

I agree that I need to drop a few pounds but I am by no means obese. Just a little overweight. I don’t eat the best and don’t get much exercise besides some walking at work. I don’t do drugs though, at all and rarely drink alcohol. I used to smoke but that was over 8 years ago. Besides that, I can’t think of any other influences on my symptoms and labs. I personally feel there are a lot of people that feel a lot better than I do that are in a lot worse shape then me. It just doesn’t seem proportional, if that makes sense?
September 16, 2009 at 3:22 pm #3454hardasnails1973MemberIn the past I have dealt with this type of case where the patient’s body had incredible high inflammation with CRP of 52 the highest I have ever seen. When looking back at the person case history and his behavior patterns I notice he drank diet dr pepper as well. When I asked him how much i was expecting may be 2-3 a day, but it was calculated to be 5 gallons a week for over 3 years. When muscle testing him for fish oil he needed 20 pills a day of carlsons brand. I told him to just take 10 untill i get testing back. When testing came back he was so low in EPA and DHA it was barely even measuring in the blood cells. His PLA2 was off the rocker at 2 times the higher limit. This person was on so many different psychomeds it was sad when the root cause of his depression was really excessive inflammation from the diet Dr pepper and asparatame exposure. Even on spectracell it verified low vitamin E, coenyame Q10 and other markers for inflammation. He needed a heavy detox and cut the soda to water, but was un willing to stay the course for proper plan of action. To this day I have not heard from him, but just be aware of how this can impact the psychological well being of a person.

Well, I will start weening myself off of caffeine. I don’t think it’s the root of all my issues but certainly can’t be helping. Hopefully I can get into see Dr. Mariano (as long as I can afford it) in the near future. I feel worse than ever. For some reason, the past few months have been really bad. Don’t know what’s changed so suddenly but I can’t keep this up.
October 5, 2009 at 4:25 pm #3465DBallMemberDon’t know if this is a symptom of anything or not but something that has seemed odd to me. I am a full inch shorter than I was 15 years ago. I didn’t check my height for years but when it was checked at couple of different doctors they said I was 5’9″ and I even asked them to double check. I used to be 5’10” in high school and at doctor visits when I was younger. Maybe it’s just a sign of aging? I’m 35 now. Anyone know if this is a symptom or sign of anything?
October 6, 2009 at 9:37 pm #3466DBallMemberWell, I can’t wait any longer. I started supplementing today and am open to suggestions of supplements as well as amounts. Thanks for your help!
I am going to pick up some iron later today but here’s what I’ve taken so far:
-5000 MCG Vitamin B12
-1000 MG Vitamin C
-2000 I.U. Vitamin D
-standard multi-vitamin and mineral formula
-I already take prescirption fish oil called LovazaWhat else should I be taking?
Here’s my labs with ranges. If there are multiple results they go from oldest to newest, left to right.
I am going to see a Dr. Mariano in california in a few weeks. Hopefully he will be able to help. I am just sick and tired of being exhausted, unmotivated, etc. Any suggestions, comments would be appreciated.
