In my Optimal Nutritional Evaluation i had very elevated levels of DHPPA in my urine. On the test it says this is indicative of long term Clostridium or Psuedomonas infection.
Dr Mariano can you can give me more information about Dihydrophenylpropionicacid?

As far as I know – which is very little in this regard, so it is more like a question in Trivial Pursuit – some bacteria give out various forms of propionic acid. Thus determining which type helps one identify the bacteria involved.

It is a metabolite which is given off by intestinal bacteria waste products. It also can falsely represent a person that eats alot of certain fruits and vegetables that also break down to that product. The discovery of leaky gut is what he anticipated from the start now this test just is confirming it. Next step is to heal it which I am doing indirectly with Sam-e because it boost glutathione levels and helps modulate neurotransmitters. I recommend Sam-e to alot of athletes who systems are over trained and out of balance to help regulate their systems till they make changes in their lifestyles, nutrition, and stress management. After a 3-4 month period I start tamper them back off as their system are back to some what optimal function. Sam-e has worked wonders for people that are suspected of being undermethylated which alot of people with stress disorders have low glutathione levels. With low gluthitione levels this open up the doors to excessive stress on the liver and also leaky gut depleting glutamine levels. Before implementing glutamine levels one needs to make sure it is converted to glutamate which is a neurotoxin in large amount.
