Though over-indulgence in any thing seems like asking for trouble, there’s one area that remains fuzzy–at least to me it is.
You guessed it, this is about the realm of male masturbation and it’s myths–because I think most of them are myths, if not the whole shebang.
This is going to sound weird, but where do you stand on the issue of frequency of male masturbation ? That is, is it your opinion that ejaculating daily may bring on problems down the road in the form of lowered libido ? We North Americans are told that we can do it to our heart content, as it is both sound and healthy. One thing is comes to mind which may or may not lead to problem if one does it daily is PRL spikes and it’s endocrinological outcomes–but on the other hand, I’m really reluctant that daily ejaculations can bring on significant issues in males. My being reluctant most likely comes from the type of media education we’re given on the continent.
So the heart of my question is : do you think a man can cause a constant state of low libido through daily ejaculation ?
Obviously, I’m aiming at my own instance here, and this is why I didn’t want to post publicly on a topic having the flavor of oriental medicine/taoist/buddhist monks with their talks of Yin/Yang/Chi/Jing and conserving the male essence. Mind you, the logo of your forum is as a matter of fact the Yin-Yang symbol, and that’s fine, cause I’m sure, TCM has gathered significant knowledge over it’s 5000 years of existence. I used to see a TCM practitioner 10 years ago, but discontinued owing to potential heavy metal contamination of TCM formulas.

Men masturbate when they can’t get actual sex. It’s a natural act. It would be unusual if a man did not masturbate. It is because of the presence of the factors resulting in libido that masturbation is possible in the first place. It is the loss of one or more of these factors that result in the loss of libido. But they are not necessarily or even demonstrably related to masturbation.
There is a refractory period after orgasms, whose duration increases with age.
Some references attribute this to prolactin. The problem I have with this idea is that dopamine is the main control signal for prolactin. And perhaps it is a reduction in dopamine signaling after orgasm that accounts for both higher prolactin and the refractory period. Over time, we lose dopamine-secreting neurons gradually. Maybe this causes the longer refractory period as men age. But this is all speculation at this time.
