I have been hearing alot about EMDR being used more in clinical psychology. I was wondering if one has the opportunity to take a course would it really be worth it as an alternative tool to be used in psychotherapy or is it just pseudoscience. I know accupunture and meridan therapy has been used for thousands of years with great success, but is EMDR on the same level?

When I reviewed EMDR, I considered EMDR as a variation of traditional cognitive behavioral therapy. The one difference is the use of eye movements as a tool. But the rest is pure cognitive-behavioral. Thus, it has real utility.

Frequently, nearly every form of therapy has some “gimmick” to it that differentiates it from other forms. As long as it works, however, it’s all good. From what I have seen so far, EMDR is very helpful for PTSD.

This is good information to know as I was hearing a lot about it recently and i just wanted to know if it would be worth potentially perusing in the future. I am always being bombarded by new techniques in the field of natural health and I just want to sift through what would be beneficial not just to me but other people as well. Thanks dr M
